Liverpool continues to search for the long term talent answers for the club under Brendan Rodgers. It is no secret that Steven Gerrard is getting older, and no matter his talent level and leadership qualities, the club has to start preparing for the future.
That unfortunate future means that Gerrard is going to eventually retire. Hopefully not for at least another four to five years, but that is a long time to go without a backup plan. According to the Daily Mail it appears that the club have zeroed in on Malaga midfielder Isco as a potential solution to the future problem of there being no Steven Gerrard.
With the financial issues that the Spanish La Liga club is facing, it is possible that Isco could be available at a cut rate this January as the side continues to prepare for the implications of financial fair play. After already having lost Santi Cazorla to Arsenal this season, the loss of Isco would be a massive blow to the club.

However, Malaga’s loss would be Liverpool’s gain and Isco would be another young midfielder with the Spanish roots in technically sound football and Brendan Rodgers is such a clear supporter of. The player’s youth upbringing would expect him to be able to quickly adapt to the new Liverpool style of play.
