Sept 18 (Reuters) - The door is wide open for Australian soccer international David Carney to leave Bunyodkor, the Uzbek club's manager said on Tuesday, adding that he was ready to terminate the left winger's contract at any time. Carney, capped 46 times by the Socceroos, was left behind in Tashkent while Bunyodkor travelled to Australia for an Asian Champions League quarter-final clash with Adelaide United on Wednesday night. LONDON (Reuters) - Newcastle United striker Demba Ba struck in the last minute to salvage a 2-2 draw with Everton in a pulsating Premier League match at Goodison Park on Monday. Everton looked to have sealed all three points when Victor Anichebe turned neatly to crack a low shot past Tim Howard with two minutes left but Ba's clever finish earned a point for his team. Everton dominated the first half and led thanks to a fine goal by England left back Leighton Baines before Newcastle equalised just after the interval through halftime substitute Ba. ...

LONDON (Reuters) - Chelsea begin their quest to become the first team to win back-to-back Champions League titles on Wednesday when they entertain a Juventus side still getting used to matchdays without their coach. The Londoners ended a long wait to become kings of Europe for the first time by beating Bayern Munich on penalties on a memorable night in the German club's Allianz Arena in May but manager Roberto Di Matteo said their thirst for trophies remained unquenched. "The owner (Roman Abramovich) has never lost his ambition," Di Matteo said ahead of the Group E opener at Stamford Bridge. ...

(Reuters) - Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson vowed there would be no repeat of last season's early Champions League exit as he prepared for Wednesday's opening Group H fixture at home to Galatasaray. The triple European champions failed to progress from the group stage in 2011-12 after suffering a shock 2-1 defeat by Swiss club Basel in their final fixture. "We've lost two finals to Barcelona and won two other finals in the last decade or so but we want to do better," Ferguson told the club's website (www.manutd.com). "Certainly we'll do better than last year - no question about that. ...

MONTPELLIER, France (Reuters) - Olivier Giroud's struggles in his first few games for Arsenal are normal and the French striker will improve after scoring his first goal, coach Arsene Wenger said on Monday. Arsenal start their Champions League campaign on Tuesday at Montpellier, the club Giroud helped win the French title last season by finishing as the league's top scorer with 21 goals. The France striker has not scored for Arsenal yet and started last weekend's match against Southampton on the bench, with Wenger preferring Gervinho in his attack. ...
