Liverpoolâs on loan to West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has come out in the press with bold comments towards new Reds manager Brendan Rodgers. In an interview with the Daily Mirror on Oct. 22, 2012, Carroll was critical that he was not given a real chance to make his mark at Anfield prior to this season.
Having joined Liverpool in January of 2010 for £35 million, Carroll had much riding on his shoulders coming in to try and fill the boots of Chelsea departed Fernando Torres. However, nearly two years on he was not thought that man to do the job in the eyes of Rodgers according to the 23-year-old English striker who had truly wanted to remain on Merseyside:
I havenât really had a fair chance at Liverpool. I was really told that I should move on to keep playing regular football, and obviously then Sam [Allardyce] wanted me here [West Ham United] and told me I would be playing regular games.Carroll has been believed to be looking at a potential return to Anfield in January with the injury issues that Liverpool have been having in the forward department.
So, for me it was a no-brainer coming here and to play. Obviously, I didnât really get a chance there.
A new manager came in and I wasnât part of his plans. For me to play football, that was my chance to do that. That is why I am here at Upton Park.
I think I could fit into every system. I believe in what I can do. Obviously he [Rodgers] has his beliefs and he didnât think that.
But for me, obviously, it was better to move on instead of waiting for my chance â" which he told me might not come.
However, these recent comments could curtail that event, and perhaps facilitate a permanent switch to West Ham United or a different suitor in January or the coming summer transfer window of 2013.
