Derby Della Madonnina: Score Doesn’t Reflect the Match As Inter Grabs 1-0 Win over Milan

Too bad he does not play for Inter or Milan…he was the referee.

Talk about the referee buzzed; even Milan’s manager Massimiliano Allegri stated his opinion: “I never talk about referees. But, I have to now. The referee got it wrong in this game.â€
Inter Milan deservedly went up 1-0 in the third minute when Walter Samuel slid to the ground and fired home a header off a free kick from Esteban Cambiasso.
Milan was robbed of the equalizer later in the first half. Bojan Krkic played Urby Emanuelson in on goal against Samir Handanovic. The former Udinese keeper jumped into the air to knock the ball away, which he did, but in the meantime collided with Urby Emanuelson. The ball fell to Riccardo Montolivo, who fired home a goal into the open net. But Valeri called a foul on Emanuelson, whose only crime was being in the path of Handanovic.

“I have no idea what the referee whistled for on the Montolivo goal,€ Allegri said. €œLet’s just say he was unlucky on the decisive incidents, as the goal would’ve been crucial. There was also a penalty and [Walter] Samuel was last man too.”
Those who support the referee from last night will claim that Yuto Nagatomo’s red card should have helped Milan. But the left back had to be sent off. Referee discretion had nothing to do with it.
AC Milan is 11th in Serie A with four losses in their first seven matches. Meanwhile, Inter is now fourth and have won five of their first seven matches.
However, Milan has shown marked improvement over the past couple weeks. They played well yesterday and have been playing well over the past few games, especially in the recent 3-2 win over Zenit St. Petersburg in the Champions League.
Real Madrid and Barcelona drew, PSG and Marseille drew. Milan deserved at least a draw, but they were the unfortunate victims of terrible refereeing.
