The latest reports from Metro on Oct. 21, 2012 claim that English Premier League club Chelsea is set to make a major offer in the range of £25 million to FC Barcelona for the services of defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets.
The Spanish international is regarded as one of, if not the best, in that position in the world and at only the age of 24 he has many years of success left under his belt. Chelsea has been buying up the top talent that money can buy in the past several transfer windows and it is no surprise that the Spaniard is on their shopping list.
With the recent restrictions on the contract offerings for aging players to take effect, veteran holding midfielder Michael Essien who is on loan to Real Madrid is likely to be offloaded this summer. Fellow holding midfielder John Obi Mikel could also be on the chopping block if a move for Busquets goes through leaving the newboy and former Barcelona youth player Oriol Romelu the next two to handle the load in the defensive midfield.
However, it is likely to cost a major premium for the talented player. Manchester City have also been linked to the player and are expected to be one of the sides that Chelsea could have to outbid to make sure they get their man.
