The unfortunate news that Liverpool forward Fabio Borini is set to have surgery on his ankle injury sustained while on international duty with Italy this past week has seen the Reds left in just the position that manager Brendan Rodgers has feared would happen.
With Andy Carroll out on loan and no more veteran back up in attack without Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy, the injury to Borini leaves the club with only one active striker on their first team in the form of Luis Suarez.
While Suarez is a man that can be trusted to do his best at the front of the attack, it is the sign that the Reds are in big trouble. January is still two and a half months away, but the first move of the window for the Reds looks almost set with Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge square in the cross hairs of Rodgers.
According to the Daily Mail, the Anfield club is set to make a loan move for Sturridge the main priority of the January window.
Although the opening months of last yearâs campaign saw Sturridge shine under former manager Andre Villas-Boas at Chelsea, the talented youngster has never found his feet or a first team place under Roberto Di Matteo.
The Reds are believed to be hopeful of agreeing a loan move for the remainder of the season with an option to buy in the summer should the side be happy with the playerâs performances. For Chelsea it would be a near win-win as they would have a fringe player on another clubâs payroll with perhaps a financial boost for the summer already in the works.
