The Colombian scored 36 goals last season and has started right where he left off this season, netting ten times in his first six matches. talkSPORT is reporting that Chelsea have inquired about the star striker as they look to improve their squad as Fernando Torres has still not fully rediscovered the form that caused Chelsea to buy him up from Liverpool.
Falcao has become the quintessential striker and has drawn interest from nearly every top club in the world. Heâs very skilled as well as being an absolutely lethal finisher, and given his great positional sense, he always finds himself in positions to score. Perhaps, Falcaoâs most notable strength is his aerial ability. He is arguably the best header of the ball in the game today. Standing at only 5â10â³, itâs quite surprising that he climbs higher than opposing defenders that stand well over 6â0â³, but he does, latching onto balls swung into the area by Arda Turan.
The price tag will likely be the sticking point as Atletico Madrid will likely demand a kingâs ransom in order to secure the strikerâs signature. Another top striker that could move in the summer is Edinson Cavani. Napoli has already said that they will be only considering bids of 60 million euros, allowing one to believe that Falcao will go for a similar fee, if not more. Cavani and Falcao are similar strikers as they both poach goals for fun, rarely miss and are highly skilled in the air. The main difference between the two strikers is that Cavani is often the lone striker, while Falcao will at times be partnered with Spanish striker Adrian Lopez.
Should Chelsea be able to seal the strikerâs signature, it would be tough to bet against them in both the Premier League as well as the UEFA Champions League. The Blues currently sit in first place in the league and occupy first spot in their Champions League group, a competition they won last season under the tutelage of Roberto Di Matteo. While Torres has been playing well this season, scoring three goals in six domestic matches, they have had very little striker depth. Daniel Sturridge is their only real alternative to the Spaniard, and Di Matteo has not put much faith in the young Englishman.
Fernando Torres will be 29 before the end of the season meaning that the pace that once made him so deadly will soon leave him. Even though Falcao reiterated his desire to stay with Spanish side Atletico Madrid, a bid of over 50 million euros will be hard to turn down for Atletico as they sold superstar Sergio Aguero for 45 million euros in 2011. Aguero requested a transfer, so as long as Falcao wants to stay with the Madrid outfit, they will be glad to have him, but I wouldnât count out Roman Abramovich offering loads of money to get his man.
